Totally a California pic
“Where wizened immigrants mingle with brash natives and watch the whole fucking place burn down...”

lol...well...i guess now the pic makes more sense
still...im used to the news going more for the hellscape pictures...tho...even the bbc picked something that wouldnt look out of place here
are we taking over the media and nobody told me again?

Maybe that’s just what they think of America: a land of muscle cars and classics. Pretty good picture too.

You looking for honest, straight-forward coverage? Always come here first.
There is no media left to take over.

welp..that would certainly be one of the kindest takes on america ive heard over here..sooo yeah...probably that :)
![]() 08/21/2020 at 12:25 |

You don't have to like America to like American cars but they do often go hand in hand.
![]() 08/21/2020 at 12:43 |

tbh..mo-town era cars have a pretty good following here
and the landyachts...the new muscle cars less so (but thats probably coz the big v8s are hundred grand cars here thanks to the taxman)
![]() 08/21/2020 at 12:48 |

Or in the case of the picture, classic muscle cars! That Challenger is from 1957, right?

Why did you guys not revolt when they signed VAT and displacement tax into law?
![]() 08/21/2020 at 12:57 |

i dunno...they legalized weed first?

More like 2007.
![]() 08/21/2020 at 13:29 |

Is that so? There’s a lot to like about them, but why would a pre emmissions reg old school big block be taxed less than a less polluting modern small block?
![]() 08/21/2020 at 13:37 |
|
classic cars have different taxes...and many of them were imported here before we really went crazy on the co2 taxes and shit
but yeah...the pricing on the new ones...i’m pretty sure thats putting a fair few people off
![]() 08/21/2020 at 13:45 |
|
Yikes, that’s, well, that defeats the whole point of a muscle car doesn’t it? They were always about an everyman’s sports car that was fun to drive and quick.
So were the old ones grandfathered in? Were the old ones imported when new through some sort of small specialist importer or are they gray market mostly?
![]() 08/21/2020 at 13:48 |
|
ah also the bigly taxes are a one off on new cars
road tax on a big v8 will be considerably more than on a 1.0....but its no where near as offputting as paying in some cases more than the base cost of the car in added taxes when you buy it
![]() 08/21/2020 at 13:52 |
|
That would indeed be offputting. A base Mustang GT here is $35,000. So 30k Euros. That means your base Mustang GT is over 3x more here, though my figure doesn’t include sales tax.
![]() 08/21/2020 at 13:53 |
|
we have specialist importers and i suspect a good few get brought here by the military stationed around
so yeah many many are already here... but importing the classics also isnt all that costly..far as i understand it theres an import tax/registration largely based on the value of the car but they skip many of the environmental taxes coz classic
and...in a funny turn of events.. many of the cars over 30 years old are road tax exempt

Grapes, that must be Napa just north of me. Yeah the air is shit.

I am not far from there, less than an hour.
![]() 08/21/2020 at 14:06 |

oh...and just to add insult to insult.....heres what you pay if you drive about 60 miles from my house to germany
this country is damn near a tax haven for companys.....for people..not so much
(and yes...you will get billed for the other 40 grand or so in tax when you register your german stang here....lol... tho..i do see a fair few cars running about on german plates here...so there is a work around somewhere...but im not sure how legal it is exactly)
![]() 08/21/2020 at 14:10 |
|
The US’s import laws are designed to be abstruse and costly so people will have no choice but to buy what was sold here to begin with. I envy as system that doesn’t punish gray market imports.
Though we also don’t have very strict environmental regulations so it’s easier and cheaper to sell interesting cars with high horsepower. I suppose it balances out. The military and diplomatic connections do make for some interesting car exchanges.
![]() 08/21/2020 at 14:12 |

That’s still a significant tax mandated cost increase. It’s about a third of what the car is worth here, but at least it isn’t 3x the worth. Is it based on CO2 emissions or what exactly?
![]() 08/21/2020 at 14:20 |
|
part of it is co2 emissions...wich seems to scale up pretty rapidly...coz really every damn car with an engine over 2.0 goes for bmw money
and theres a flat rate of 21% sales tax on top of that
![]() 08/21/2020 at 14:25 |
|
That is a lot of tax. But wait, how does a 2 liter ecoboost Mustang cost the same as a BMW? Or are you saying a BMW with a 1.5 liter turbo or something.
![]() 08/21/2020 at 14:37 |
|
2.3 ecoboost 63 grand
2.0 bmw 530 66 grand
all that tax kinda dwarves the brand price tag....its why ill never see a stinger gt here
(coz hahahahaha hundred grand kia)
![]() 08/21/2020 at 14:48 |
|
Aww, the Stinger really is a fantastic car though. It is interesting how the brand name premium from Ford to BMW isn't all the significant after tax. They hardly have the same customer base though.

You forgot to mention that America is completely on fire too and all we can really do is point and look.
![]() 08/21/2020 at 14:52 |
|
That too. Except the people fighting the dumpster fire that is the nation aren't half as recognized as heros as firefighters are.
![]() 08/21/2020 at 15:59 |
|
oh yeah they really arent comparable.... but it probably does explain why you see relatively many audis, mercs and bimmers here and relatively few sportsy cheapsters
at 60 grand plus the buyers are more of a luxobarge crowd than a sportscar crowd... also tends to fit better with whatever job they have
![]() 08/21/2020 at 16:12 |
|
Indeed. A 60k Mustang stills draws the 30k crowd it was designed for.

welp..stay safe mate

Incredible pic! Almost wallpaper worthy... but maybe that would be in poor taste, considering the circumstances. :/

That's how they getcha. It's all just bread and circuses, man.
